Call for Entries: "The Burg 2" Art Exhibition

Gallery@Second, 608 North 2nd Street, Harrisburg, Pa. is hosting a group art exhibition from January 14 to March 12, 2016.

With the opening of its gallery doors in May 2010, one of Gallery@Second's first featured exhibitions was a group show titled "The Burg." A tour of that 2010 exhibition can be seen HERE.

This exhibition was a critical part of a very successful launch of the gallery and, in addition to the sales of many artworks, also yielded a number of covers for the TheBurg newspaper. The gallery's introduction to the Harrisburg community with the show in 2010 provided both the gallery and its visitors a creative glimpse of the diverse and talented expanse of artists who call Harrisburg and the surrounding communities "home."

"The Burg 2" will feature the same type of content as the 2010 exhibition. That is, artists are asked to provide depictions, from representational to abstract, and any level of detail about Harrisburg. The call is for two-dimensional, framed paintings, drawings and photography. Paintings and drawings must be original works. Photography and digital mediums are accepted as limited-edition prints. Artwork submission is open to all styles of art. Works on canvas without framing will be accepted as long as the wrapped edges are painted. The exhibition will be presented in salon style.

Artists may submit up to five pieces of work. Framed art cannot exceed 48 inches in any direction. An entry fee of $5 each for work with a maximum measurement of 24 inches in any direction is requested. Works in the size range over 24 inches up to 48 inches have an entry fee of $10 each. Entry fees will be obligated towards the cost of postcards, promotion and amenities associated with the two receptions (January 15 and February 19) to be held for the exhibition.

A Great Cause
The gallery is reducing its sales commission for this exhibition so the artist retains 70% of the retail price upon the sale of each work. The gallery will then donate its 30% commission of each work sold to Sprocket Mural Works ( Sprocket Mural Works is a citywide mural project that works with neighborhoods, artists, organizations and governmental agencies to create vibrant community murals across Harrisburg, and tell the stories of our rich mural history. The mission of Sprocket Mural Works is to increase community pride and civic engagement in Harrisburg through united creative action. Operating as a nonprofit program under Jump Street since 2014, Sprocket Mural Works has helped paint more than ten murals and community art pieces around the region. Money raised through the art sales will help fund a Harrisburg mural to be painted in 2016. With this partnership amongst this organization, participating artists and the gallery, the hope is that great art featuring Harrisburg will help yield even more art that directly benefits and underscores the rich culture of the city.

Timeframe for Submissions
Submissions for this exhibition will be accepted on each of the following Saturdays: December 5, 12 and 19 and January 2 and 9 during regular business hours from 10 a.m. through 8 p.m. Consignment agreements to accompany submissions may be downloaded from our web page ( or can be obtained as hard copy from the gallery at the time of submission. Depending on early response and known space limitations, the gallery reserves the right to either limit the amount of submissions per artist or cease receipt of artworks before the intake deadline of the exhibition occurs.
